Hats Off! Women's Airline Uniform Caps on View in Terminal 1
Hats
Off! Women's Airline Uniform Caps, a new exhibition at San Francisco International
Airport, presents a unique look at the design history of the crowning touch in the fashions of
flight--the airline uniform hat for women.
The approximately thirty-five uniform caps included in the exhibition illustrate the cap's role
as a practical accessory and an extension of an airline's company image. Caps on display
range from haute couture-inspired looks from the 1940s, and modern designs from the 1960s to
retro-influenced styles from the 1980s and 1990s. Among the designers represented in the
exhibition are Adolfo, Howard Greer, Oleg Cassini, Stan Herman, Eric Javits, Raymond Loewy, Jean
Louis, Hanae Mori, Mary McFadden and Frank Olive.
Hats Off! Women's Airline Uniform Caps is located pre-security on the
Departures/Ticketing Level of Terminal 1, through April 11, 2008. There is no charge to view
the exhibition, and the exhibition is open 24 hours a day.

SFO Recognized for Employee Health and Wellness InitiativesThe
California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness has honored San Francisco International
Airport (SFO) for its commitment to employee wellness. The Airport received a Silver trophy at
the Task Force’s 2007 Fit Business Awards ceremony sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, held in
Sacramento on November 8, 2007. The awards, which acknowledged over 80 employers, are a
coordinated effort between the California Task Force on Youth and Wellness and the California
Department of Health Services, 5 a Day—
Be Active! Worksite Program to recognize private and non-profit companies that promote a
healthier workplace.
SFO was selected for a Silver award in recognition of the Airport’s wide ranging Health and
Wellness Program, which features a 5-year implementation plan to progressively incorporate
additional nutrition and fitness initiatives for SFO employees.
Recent program initiatives range from providing employees with health and wellness tools, such
as health information and training; to working with the SFO Medical Clinic to offer free blood
pressure checks at airport community events. Throughout 2007 SFO also encouraged its
employees to participate in Airport Commission and City-wide wellness campaigns including SFO on
the Go, a 10-week wellness program based on the American Cancer Society’s “Active for Life”
program; Mayor Newsom’s Shape Up San Francisco Walking Challenge; ongoing lunch-time
yoga classes taught by employee volunteers; and a stretching program for the Airport's
Custodial staff.
SFO’s Health and Wellness program is managed by the Airport’s Safety and Health
section. Twenty-seven “team leaders” from various airport work divisions also assist with
implementing the program by coordinating wellness activities and providing valuable program input
and feedback.
